Attractive Entitlements
Annual Leave
Leave entitlements are determined by the various awards and agreements covering employees of the college, and therefore vary for different categories of staff. There is also an additional week’s leave for employees working in the North West (on the completion of 12 months service).
Travel Concession
After the completion of 12 month’s service, employees are eligible for an annual travel concession which may be used in conjunction with annual leave. The travel concession is equivalent to a return airfare to Perth for the staff member and any dependents who are not in receipt of a travel entitlement from another source.
Karratha, Port Hedland, Newman and Tom Price are serviced by Qantas. SkyWest also services Karratha and Port Hedland. In addition, Port Hedland is an International Airport with a weekly flight to Denpasar Bali.
Housing
Pilbara TAFE is provided with housing by the Government Regional Officers’ Housing (GROH). Housing on a subsidised rental basis is allocated to Permanent and Limited Term Contract Level 3 and above Government Officers and Lecturer positions attract a GROH housing allocation, subject to conditions and availability. Information for Occupants can be found at http://www.dhw.wa.gov.au/396.asp
Locality/District Allowance
District allowance refers to an allowance which is paid to assist with the increase cost of living in the North West.
All staff including casuals are entitled to receive this allowance. In some instances, where the staff member is supporting a dependent spouse or, where there is no spouse, dependent children or relatives, the staff member may be eligible to receive a higher allowance rate. For any questions relating to district allowance, please contact the Manager Human Resources.
North West Child Allowance
All full time employees of Pilbara TAFE are eligible to claim North West Child Allowance at the rate of $100 per annum in respect of each child of school age who is resident in the North, provided that total re-imbursement per family unit under this clause shall not exceed $400 per annum. This allowance can only be claimed once per family, and is paid into staff member’s salaries on a fortnightly basis.
Air Conditioning Subsidy
All full time and part time employees (pro rata to hours worked) of Pilbara TAFE are entitled to an air conditioning subsidy during the months of October through to April, provided that such a subsidy does not already apply to the staff member’s accommodation. The amount of subsidy payable to staff will vary according to the type of accommodation and the air conditioning system installed in their home.
Equal Opportunity
Pilbara TAFE is an equal opportunity employer. Employees are valued and respected, and provided with opportunities to develop their full potential.
The College is committed to making sure all people applying for College jobs, enrolling in programs or accessing services are valued and respected. The College will ensure that rules, policies, and behaviours do not disadvantage people because they belong to certain groups.
Employee Assistance Program
The College provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This is an independent, confidential and professional counselling service available to all employees and their immediate families. Anything can be discussed with the Counsellor, either work-related or personal issues – and it’s FREE!
Salary Packaging
Pilbara TAFE employees can access Salary Packaging arrangements that help you achieve significant tax savings.
Instead of receiving your whole salary as taxable income you can take a proportion as salary packaging payments for items such as a motor vehicle lease, superannuation contributions or a lap top computer.
This effectively reduces the amount of PAYG tax payable and increases your disposable income.
