ECM award prize at TAFE celebration
Local company ECM added an extra special touch to a celebratory end-of-semester BBQ at TAFE by awarding a prize to the best First Year Metal Fabrication apprentice.
Branch Manager, Paul Montgomery from Engineered Construction and Maintenance, ECM, explained the ECM Skills Development Award was created to recognise the skills progression and potential of a first year apprentice.
Established nine years ago, ECM provides professional personnel and expertise in metals fabrication, construction and maintenance. The company, which is led by experienced and motivated individuals with engineering and metal trades backgrounds, will officially open its new Port Services Base located off King Bay Road, Dampier at the end of this month.
Mr Montgomery said, "ECM recognises the importance of skilled and dedicated individuals in industry. It's great to invest in the local community. It can be pretty tough taking on a trade and, most importantly, finishing it but the rewards are well worthwhile."
Mr Montgomery presented the prize to Ben Forrest, an apprentice with DC Project Services, along with a framed certificate and tools voucher to support the advancement of his trade.
Pilbara TAFE's Managing Director Barry McKnight said Ben was a worthy recipient of the award.
"Ben has really applied himself over the last few months and shows great potential as a future tradesman," said Barry.
"We're thrilled that ECM is partnering with TAFE to recognise the achievements of tomorrow's future workforce."
Other companies in the community have the opportunity to sponsor TAFE awards in December with a further scholarship program planned for 2010.
