Top trainers graduate in the fast lane at TAFE
Pilbara TAFE's latest class of graduates has more in common than a passion for training.
The six-strong group has completed an intensive course in Training and Assessment, using traditional classroom based delivery and online learning to gain a full qualification in just three months.
Lecturer Linda Bright explains the course trialled new forms of delivery at TAFE involving web-based platforms such as YouTube or BlipTV to provide assessments and gain feedback from their lecturer.
"These graduates are all professionals from key organisations in town so they're faced with very tight timelines and busy schedules, especially as it's a fast-track program," says Linda.
"To maximise their learning experience, we've utilised new technology such as web cameras and online workbooks for training and assessment..
"These skills are all transferable so they can use these tools in their workplace to teach and assess others."
Richelle from Mitchell West said the course had provided valuable new insights into the teaching profession.
"Each workshop been really practical so we've been able to apply the theory to our workplaces and bounce ideas off each other," said Richelle.
"I'd recommend this course to anyone involved in training because it's provided all the background skills and required knowledge to complement our on-the-job experience."
Linda says each participant has advanced significantly in three short months.
"In addition to gaining a thorough overview of training and assessment, these students have used this class as a networking forum where they have supported each other professionally while keeping each other personally motivated."
Enrolments for the next intake for Certificate IV in Training and Assessment are open now.
