Emergencies and Cyclones

Important Information: Pilbara TAFE Cyclone Response Procedure (PDF)

General Information

There are emergency procedures at every campus and you should:

  • familiarise yourself with the nearest evacuation route and assembly area; and
  • know where exits and fire alarms are located. Evacuation maps indicating these routes and assembly areas are located on notice boards and in classrooms at all campuses.

Students will be fully briefed on the procedures relating to their campus during their Pilbara TAFE induction.

Cyclones

Pilbara TAFE is situated in a region that is prone to cyclones. The cyclone season extends from 1 November to 30 April each year. In accordance with State Emergency Services (SES) procedures, staff and students are required to vacate the premises and return to their homes once a Yellow Alert has been announced. Pilbara TAFE will return to normal services once the 'All Clear' is advised by the SES.

Blue Alert - A cyclone has formed and may affect the area within 48 hours.

Yellow Alert - A cyclone is moving closer and appears inevitable.

Red Alert - A cyclone is imminent.

In the event of any emergency, follow all instructions of Pilbara TAFE staff and/or emergency services personnel.
