Concession Fees
The following students are entitled to the concession rate on tuition fees:
- Persons and dependants of persons holding:
- a Pensioner Concession Card
- a Repatriation Health Benefits Card issued by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs
- a Health Care Card
- Persons and dependants of persons in receipt of Austudy or Abstudy;
- Persons and dependents of persons in receipt of Youth Allowance;
- Persons who are inmates of a custodial institution;
- Persons who have reached the age of 15 but have not reached 18 years of age and are not due to reach 18 years of age in the calendar year for which they enrol are.
Proof of eligibility for concession must be shown at the time of enrolment.
Resource Fees
The resource fee covers the cost of the materials/consumables purchased by Pilbara TAFE to be consumed or transformed by students in the course of instruction. These charges can vary between different training programs, so check with Client Services for further details. Resource fees do not include textbooks or any equipment that will be retained by students as their own personal property. Students purchase such items separately.
Fees for International Students and Temporary Residents
International students and temporary residents are charged at rates determined by TAFEWA International.
Persons holding a visa of sub-class 309, 310, 785, 820 or 826 or secondary holders of a temporary visa of sub-class 457are treated as Australian residents for fee charging purposes. Enrolling for Assessments (Examinations) Only
Students enrolling for examination or assessment only may be required to pay an assessment entry charge per unit of competency (UOC). No other fees apply. Students who have already paid the maximum course fee for the semester are not required to pay this charge.
Recognition of Prior Learning Fees
The cost of Recognition of Prior Learning assessment for credit is the same as the course fees for vocational training.
Payment Options
On enrolment, students will take up one of the following payment options:
- pay the full amount of fees and charges
- present a signed authority from an employer to invoice that employer for the student’s fees and charges;
- make application on the grounds o financial hardship to pay be instalments and pay a deposit to a maximum of $100.00;
- make application o9n the grounds of severe financial hardship for fees and charges to be waived; or
- for students who have fallen behind in their instalments during the previous semester, the RTO may work out with the student an appropriate arrangement to pay the amount outstanding, plus the fees and charges for the next semester. If this can be arranged, the student may be enrolled.
Students are deemed to be enrolled only when all required fees are paid. If you fail to pay your fees or costs by the due dates, your results will be withheld and qualifications not issued until Pilbara TAFE receives all fees owed.
Full Refunds
Students who withdraw are entitled to a full refund of fees and charges where:
- a course/qualifica6tion or unit is cancelled or re-scheduled at a time unsuitable to the student;
- a student is not given a place due to maximum number of places being reached;
- a student accepts an offer of a place in a university. In this situation, students must provide a copy of the letter of offer with their refund application.
Students are required to complete a Fee Refund Application form, available from Client Services.
Conditions applicable for refund of fees:
- Withdrawal within four weeks
Students who withdraw for reasons other than those outlined above, and who lodge a withdrawal form prior to or within four weeks of commencing their unit or their program of study or before 25% of delivery has been concluded (whichever is sooner) will be eligible for a full refund of course fees and 50% of the resource fee paid. A Fee Refund Application form must be lodged with Client Services within two weeks of the official withdrawal.
Pro Rata Refunds
A pro-rata refund of fees and charges can be applied for at any time during the course of delivery if students withdraw for reasons of personal circumstances beyond their control.
Conditions applicable for pro rata refund of fees:
- a qualification/course/subject withdrawal form is lodged; and
- a letter of explanation forwarded to the Managing Director with relevant documentary evidence supporting the withdrawal.
Students should also be aware that unless they lodge an Enrolment Amendment form within two weeks of their last class attendance, they will be resulted with an ‘H’ grade (Result Withheld – competency not yet achieved). Please see the Results section for an explanation of grades.
Financial Assistance
If you are studying at Pilbara TAFE you may be eligible for financial assistance from Centrelink.
Youth Allowance is a support payment to young people under 25. For more information contact Centrelink on 13 24 90.
AUSTUDY is available to full-time students 25 and over. For more information contact Centrelink on 13 24 90.
ABSTUDY is available to Indigenous students studying full-time. For more information contact Centrelink on 13 23 17.
For Assistance for Isolated Children contact Centrelink on 13 23 18.
Students enrolled in full-time courses are required to advise their lecturer or Client Services of non-attendance due to illness.
Students receiving government financial assistance while studying at TAFEWA will need to provide Centrelink with medical certificates covering absent dates to avoid a payment review.
