Assessment Plan

Documents the unit of competency being assessed, when and how the assessment will occur and the assessment methods being used.

Assessment Tool

The instrument containing specific questions, task or requirements which students must complete and be able to respond to in such a way as to allow competency to be determined.

Competency

The specification of knowledge and skills and the application of that knowledge and skills to the standard required in the workplace or industry.

Competency Standard

Defines the competencies required for effective performance in the workplace. Standards are expressed in outcome terms and have standard format comprising of unit title, unit descriptor, elements, performance criteria, range statements and evidence guide.

Dimensions of Competency

All aspects of work performance, not only narrow task skills. The four dimensions are task skills, task management skills, contingency management skills, job/role environment skills. Students must demonstrate all four dimensions to be deemed competent.

Element

As the basic building block of the unit of competence, elements describe the tasks that make up the broader function or job, described by the unit.

Key Competencies

Employment related general competencies that are essential for effective participation in the workplace including cultural awareness, using technology, collect, analyse and organise information, communicate ideas and information, plan and organise activities, work with others and in teams, use mathematical ideas and techniques, solve problems. Students must be able to demonstrate these to be deemed competent in the unit of competency.

Performance Criteria

Evaluative statements which specify what is to be assessed and the required level of performance. The performance criteria specify the activities, skills, knowledge and understanding that provide evidence of competent performance for each element.

Unit of Competency or Competency Standard Unit (UOC)

This is the unit in which you are enrolled. It outlines the specification of knowledge and skills and the application of that knowledge and skill to the standard of performance expected by the relevant industry.
