Friends of the Theatre

The Friends of the Theatre is an organisation with two main functions.

One is to support the Walkington Theatre in a practical way by providing volunteers and to raise money for projects within the theatre.

The second is to provide a membership data base of regular theatre goers and to reward these loyal people with discounted tickets, special offers and a monthly newsletter. So in effect we have Active members and Non-active members.

The Walkington Theatre is run by a full-time staff of three and the help of the FOTT volunteers is extremely important for our day to day operations. FOTT volunteers work as ushers, bar staff and projectionists and occasionally as technical support. The Friends of the Theatre bar fundraises for improvements in equipment and facilities for the benefit of all the community. In 2002 FOTT’s contributed $20,000 to the creation of the Telstra Country Wide Moonrise Cinema (now the Woodside Moonrise Cinema), a significant portion of the overall cost.

Benefits of FOTT membership:

  • You will receive a monthly newsletter along with the What’s On Guide detailing all the Theatre’s activities.
  • You will receive discounts on tickets to all shows, with the possible exception of shows that have hired the venue (one or two a year). However we endeavour to negotiate a discount for you with the hirer.
  • You will receive a movie card. Every time you buy a movie ticket we stamp the card and your 10th ticket is free.
  • During the year FOTT members are invited to social events.
  • All members can receive FOTT discounts at other Circuitwest venues (Matt Dann Performing Arts Centre, Camel Lane Theatre, Queens Park Theatre, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, Goldfields Arts Centre, Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, Albany Town Hall, Margaret River Arts Centre, Merredin Theatre) so next time you are holidaying take your card!
  • You will receive discount cards from participating local businesses offering 10% discount in their stores.
  • Please present your FOTT card at the box office to ensure you receive your discount.

What can you do for FOTT’s?

  • Have fun volunteering with a great bunch of people
  • Learn new skills
  • Enjoy the entertainment

A FOTT volunteer is entitled to free admission for the show they are working on and may invite a guest for movie screenings. FOTT’s who work 5 or more shows per year receive the next year’s membership free. Social functions are held throughout the year culminating in an end of the year party for the volunteers.

If you are interested in learning some new skills and helping the theatre then FOTT’s is for you. Training for most duties is done on an individual basis with a required amount of supervised experience before you can become an active volunteer. A volunteer is required from 1/2hour before the show until about 15 minutes after – and you can choose which shows you work and how often you work. We would love to see you here.

FOTT membership is affordable and is done on a calendar year.
